August 2017 – Tefen Music Festival

This year celebrated a unique 3 days bringing together World, Classical, and Jazz music: Symphonic Concerts, Chamber Music, Jazz Concerts, Master Classes, and Rehearsals. There were memorable special guests including the young Safi Da’im on the qanun and the “Peace Drums Ensemble”, a heart-warming musical initiative to join the culturally diverse youth of the Haifa and I’blin region. Chen Zimbalista was the Musical Director and the festival was sponsored by the Open Museums and the Regional Council of Tefen Industrial Parks.

Repertoire:

Bach – Concerto for 2 Violins; Bartok – Romanian Dances; Teleman – Suite for flute; Piazzola – Oblivion; Mohammed Abdel Wahab – Inta Omri (You are my Life)

The festival program included:

A bach concert – with arrangements made for marimba and orchestra and the traditional Arabic qanun
Jazz Concert – Dizzy Gillespie; Nat King Cole; Duke Ellington, George Gershwin and more
An open workshop with traditional Caribbean steel drums from Trinidad and Tobago
